Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker contender on the globe by many of the top-ranked professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to discover everything he could about poker. He routinely would tell his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t allow the detrimental feedback from other people destroy his dream of becoming one of the strongest poker players on the planet.
He started playing seriously after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his abilities at the casinos of Atlantic City. The initial number of years for him were a teaching opportunity and winning was not a regular thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made 2 final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he defeated a number of the better known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his success to hard work and an immeasurable passion for poker. Phil says that he is learning every single day and is incredibly humble about his achievements. Phil admits to making mistakes in each game of poker and always aspires to get better.
Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some big tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a regular basis.
