Gus Hansen enjoyed an amazing year on the WPT where he was the only gambler to achieve final table in three of the events. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You might remember one of the biggest pots in big stakes poker recorded history competing against Daniel Negreanu. Gus won a large pot with 4 of a kind against Daniel’s full house. Gus has made many televised poker appearances and is thought to be one of the strongest gamblers anywhere in the world. While participating in web poker, a different side of Hansen has appeared. He frequently competes in the 200/400 No Limit maximum buy-in of Forty Thousand dollars. Gus more often than not buys-in for the min of Sixteen Thousand dollars and plays very weak. He waits patiently for a good hand and then goes all-in. I know Hansen is an amazing poker player but not even close to the regular players at 200/400NL. Unless he is bankrupt, he has no reason to sit at the table with the min buy-in.
Playing for the minimum takes most of the expertise out of deep stack poker. Hansen is supposed to be 1 of the greatest players in the world but he cannot buy-in for the full amt.. I think tv can alter our view of the real world sometimes. The best players in the world might just be guys you have won’t have heard of before. Gus can be seen competing in online poker on Full Tilt. He usually plays in high stakes Omaha and hold’em. Gus Hansen has proven himself as a competition player. Can he use his abilities in money rounds?
