Gus Hansen enjoyed an amazing year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only player to achieve last table in three of the competitions. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You may recall one of the largest pots in high stakes poker history competing against Daniel Negreanu. Gus won a huge pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has made many televised poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the best bettors anywhere in the world. While wagering on internet poker, another side of Hansen has appeared. He frequently participates in the 200/400 NL max buy-in of Forty Thousand dollars. Hansen more often than not buys-in for the minimum of Sixteen Thousand dollars and plays very poorly. He waits for a decent hand and then goes all in. I know Gus is an outstanding poker player but certainly not even close to the everyday players at 200/400no limit. Unless Gus is broke, he has little or no reason to play at the game with the min buy-in.

Buying in for the minimum takes almost all of the skill out of big stack poker. Hansen is supposed to be 1 of the best players in the world but he cannot buy-in for the full amount. I think television can alter our perception of the real world every now and then. The best players in the world might be guys you have won’t have heard about. Gus can be found competing in net poker on Full Tilt. He generally plays in big stakes omaha high and texas holdem. Gus has proven himself as a tournament player. Can he back up his talents in money rounds?
